Spend the perfect day or weekend in this postcard-worthy, shop-filled western Catskills village
Margaretville, an unassuming little village on the border of Catskill Park in Delaware County, is one to bookmark for your road trip files. Just shy of an hour from Kingston, Margaretville and its neighboring towns are destination-worthy thanks to a vibrant restaurant scene, excellent shopping, and easy access to some of the region’s best outdoors action.
Margaretville proper is considered the area’s commerce hub, with plenty of businesses, restaurants, and shops stacked along and around the hamlet’s inviting Main Street. In addition to being near Arkville, funky Roxbury (read: ex-Brooklynites flock here), and burgeoning Fleischmanns, Margertville is within easy reach of Belleayre Mountain and its namesake ski resort.
There, you’ll find plenty of opportunity for seasonal outdoors exploration like hiking, skiing, mountain biking, disc golf and swimming and boating at Belleayre Beach on Pine Hill Lake. Margaretville is also less than 20 minutes away from lesser known Plattekill Mountain, which has skiing, snow tubing, and an alpine race program.
Coming from Albany? Margaretville is about an hour and 40-minute drive southwest, and those starting in NYC can expect a drive of about two hours and 40 minutes.
