Amy Helm to showcase music and Catskill Mountains on gig aboard train in Poughkeepsie Journal

By John W. Barry

Railroads and rivers, stories and songs, the Catskill Mountains and a whole lot of history, on board and off the train you travel on — I can’t get enough of it all.

That’s why a very special event featuring Woodstock musician Amy Helm and the Delaware & Ulster Railroad in Delaware County next month has caught my attention in a big way.

Minus the river, Helm will be showcasing it all when she performs on a historic railroad that offers a singular perspective on the mountain range that defines so much of the Hudson Valley’s physical beauty and cultural heritage. Helm twice on Sunday, Dec. 15, will lead an acoustic trio aboard the Delaware & Ulster Railroad’s Rip Van Winkle Flyer.

Boarding for “Amy Helm’s Holiday Express” gets underway at 1 p.m. for the early excursion, with a 1:30 p.m. departure. Boarding for the the later journey will be at 4 p.m. with a 4:30 p.m. departure.
