Apple Hill
Perched on a wide swath of lawn that gently slopes, allowing for an alluring view of layered hills, this picture postcard cottage has been beautifully appointed for an optimal vacation experience. While not a sprawling home, this sweet cottage does provide for a number of really pleasing nooks and crannies.
Just inside the front door a handy mud room with slate floor is ideal for depositing footwear and hanging coats. Inside the house, a banquette and dining table tucked into a corner of windows creates a booth-like setting, perfect for card games, puzzles or sipping your morning cup of joe. The heart of the houses includes open plan kitchen, dining and living areas, which benefit from an abundance of windows and natural light. The long farmhouse dining table is the catalyst for what will surely be memorable meals, enjoyably prepared in the nicely appointed kitchen.
In colder weather you’ll want to relax in a comfortable chair by the fire, or perhaps take the plunge into the hot tub just outside. As the temps rise, you may prefer to dine on the screened porch and watch the deer graze on the lawn while the light wanes. Certainly during the day the wide deck will be the space everyone gravitates to, whether reclining on a lounge, or sitting to read a book.
There is a half bathroom just off the living room, and the full bathroom, which features a glass-enclosed shower, is off the hallway. Both bedrooms (queens) are at the end of the corridor. One has an exterior access.
Apple Hill is just off a very quiet country road, which sees little traffic. It skirts Lake Wawaka, which is really the East Branch of the Delaware River, but is a section that had long ago been dammed, creating this long waterway. You can rent kayaks just a walk down the road and explore the lake and observe its abundant birdlife, which includes an eagle population that’s really making a comeback.
The house is just 6.5 miles from skiing at Plattekill, and is 20 minutes from Belleayre. The renowned Pakatakan Farmers’ Market at the Round Barn is just 1.5 miles away, and the area’s attractions from the Union Grove Distillery, which frequently offers live music, to the cute shops in Roxbury, make this an area that will satisfy your need for peace and scenic beauty, while providing appealing destinations and opportunities for activities.
