Farm Fresh Summer
There is no escaping the agricultural splendor in the Great Western Catskills. Whether in town while the Delhi Farmers’ Market is in full swing or driving through the winding foothills of the Catskills, the farming culture of the area is evident. You will find barns and farm fields, farm stands selling fresh items, and restaurants sourcing products directly from the farmers.

There are ten farmers’ markets that take place throughout the summer with a few of them lasting year-round or long into the fall. At the markets you will find fresh fruits and vegetables, pasture raised meat, herbal tinctures and dried herbs, homemade pies, fresh baked bread and pastries, and many other locally produced items. Learn more about the specific farmers’ markets in the area here.

Farm stands are a great place to shop local items if you are looking for a few items on your way home or on your way to a weekend retreat. Visit ByeBrook Farm and Humdinger Farm Stores in Bloomville, Burn Ayr in Delhi, and Covered Bridge Farm Market in Unadilla for items direct from the farmers. Often operating on the honesty policy, these farm stands have their doors open with farm fresh eggs, meat, pies, cheese, and other items depending on the location. Make sure to bring cash!

Restaurants in Delaware County do their best to source as much as they can from local farms. Some restaurants that go above and beyond to source locally are Hollow and EightyMain in Delhi, Hamden Inn & Lounge in Hamden, Brushland Eating House and Bovina Farm and Fermentory in Bovina, and The Old Schoolhouse Inn in Downsville. Many other restaurants in the area also source locally. Browse all restaurants here.

The Great Western Catskills are a wonderful place to visit to enjoy real food and natural beauty. While you are in town, witness an old-timey classic, Vintage Base Ball. Delaware County has three teams that play by the rules of the 1800’s, with healthy competition and a fun afternoon at the center of each game. Learn more about the teams and view the schedule here.

The area celebrates agriculture through multiple events each year. Explore the options below to meet farm animals, experience tractor pulls, learn about the history of cauliflower in the area and much more.
