Winter in Delaware County

If you’ve got a snowmobile, Delaware County in the winter is for you. Considered the busiest snowmobiling destination in the Catskills, the region has the makings for perfect ride: snow, scenery and well-maintained trails with over 350 miles of trailed includes in the states C2 trail system. With an abundance of excellent snowmobile clubs and special events hosted all winter long, this is a definite must visit for the snowmobile enthusiast.

Plattekill boasts big mountain terrain and friendly, family-oriented small mountain charm.  Choose from 38 trails, 4 lifts and 1,100 feet of vertical, you’ll find 2-mile long beginner cruiser trails and some of the steepest double-black diamonds around.  With ski and snowboard rentals, the mountain also offers snow tubing, family-friendly yearlong events and a variety of other winter activities.  Fiercely independent, the Mountain is privately owned and operated by the Vajtay Family, catering to what they know best, families.  As part of shrinking number of privately operated mountains all over the country, Plattekill has built on that reputation of offering a laid back, true, real deal authentic vibe that sets the mountain apart from the rest.  Click here to read more from greatwesterncatskills.com on what you can expect at Plattekill and what locals love about the mountain.

Skiing Delaware County New York

Plattekill Mountain

We are fortunate enough to be in the very close proximity to a second snow mountain in Belleayre Mountain. Located right off of State Route 28 in Highmount, NY, just minutes from the Delaware County border and just hours from New York City.

Belleayre stands as a model in the ski industry. Continued improvements include the Area 51 terrain park, two progression parks, several mogul trails ranging from intermediate to expert bumps, extensive glade skiing and segregated beginner area. With 50 trails, parks and glades, 8 lifts including a high speed quad, Belleayre Mountain has certainly evolved from humble, yet promising beginnings into an efficient and growing organization – perfection in progress.

Love to hike or snowshoe in the winter? The trails are open and are ideal places to enjoy the winter weather. Please make sure to follow all rules, make sure to sign in and sign out and be careful on the trails.
