Lodging Spotlight: Breezy Acres Bed & Breakfast

There are many reasons to visit the Catskills and to keep returning, but when you’ve been coming back for 25 years and always want to stay in the same bed & breakfast, you know it has to be a pretty special lodging place. "Stay as a guest, leave as a friend," as one visitor puts it. This is how people describe the Breezy Acres Bed & Breakfast in Hobart, NY.

The classic B&B has a beautiful backstory, deeply rooted in the surrounding rural Great Western Catskills area. Dave, a local farm boy working on his father’s dairy farm, marries Joyce, a local girl who studied home economics and hotel administration. Together they work on the farm and are active participants in community groups and events. Several years later, they decide to make her dream of owning a bed and breakfast come true. The farm now grows and sells pumpkins, while the farmhouse has been transformed into a traditional B&B in which the owners also live. 30 years later, they are still operating!

Lush hills and fields surround the property with a scenic hiking trail right nearby with plenty of options for those seeking outdoor adventures. Ask the owners for a tour, they will happily show you around! Gorgeous gardens with lounge chaises invite you to relax, and the rocking chairs on the covered porch beg you to sit down – and slow down – with a book. Out in the village of Hobart, a picturesque Catskills community, you can explore the many curious book stores that make up this self-described "book village". Other Catskills draws such as local culture and attractions, outdoor recreation and eateries (including the acclaimed Table on Ten) are all within a scenic driving distance.

However you spend your day, you'll love returning to your room at Breezy Acres. All three guest rooms are on the second floor, each wonderfully clean and cozy with their own full bath and amazing views from the windows. Breakfast is something to look forward to – a beautifully set table with a hearty three-course meal including fresh fruit, homemade muffins or pastry, and an entrée. You can count on some friendly conversation and laughter too.

Maybe all this put together is the secret to how guests do become friends that want to visit again and again...

"I have been a patron of this B&B for over 25 years and have always found Joyce and Dave Barber to be super hosts. The B&B is well kept, appointed nicely, and Joyce is an excellent baker and cook... After all these years, I consider Joyce and Dave to be more friends than innkeepers."

"We have stayed with Joyce and Dave many times. They open their house as well as their hearts with every stay."

"My wife and I had a fantastic week's stay at Breezy Acres while visiting family in the area. Joyce and Dave made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. Every corner of this cozy B&B is warm and welcoming. The rooms were clean, the beds super comfortable and we had stunning views of the Catskills from every window."

"We will never miss an opportunity to return… I could not have imagined a place more adept to provide a warm welcome… The grounds are breathtaking and maintained exquisitely. The rooms are well-kept with the utmost of care and are spotless. What more can we say but everyone should stay at Breezy Acres!"
