Agritourism

While visiting our area, discover the splendid tastes of local food producers in the Great Western Catskills. From honey and maple syrup, to fresh produce, pastured beef, chicken, pork, lamb, goat, eggs, jams and more, we have it all right here. Visit one of the many farmers’ markets, farm stores, back road farm stands or restaurants offering true farm-to-table dining to experience the tastes of these mountains.

Many restaurants are now featuring locally grown products as a centerpiece of their menus. Outstanding, wholesome food is one of the pleasant secrets you will find in Delaware County. If a true farming experience is something you are looking for, farm stays are available. How about milking a goat or cow, picking blueberries, or gathering up fresh eggs for your first meal of the day? Supporting local farms keeps agriculture viable. Be sure to bring a cooler and stock up to fill your freezers at home. It’s fresher and more nutritious than any product you will find at your grocery store and your taste buds will thank you for it!

  • The Green Shepherd Farm

Green Shepherd Farm is an artisanal family-run business raising a growing flock of hardy Finnsheep on 50 sustainably–managed acres in Bovina, NY. Our farm is Animal Welfare Approved. This achievement underscores our commitment to good farming practices that improve the well-being of both the flock and environment. Lambs selected "for the table" receive no grain or medication at all unless it is vital to their health. We do not administer hormones of any kind.

We sell USDA inspected whole lamb processed to your specifications; fresh to retailers or for roasting at home, and as convenient frozen vacuum-packed cuts ready for your special recipe. A limited number of retail cuts and organs may be purchased at local stores or directly at the farm. The farm also sells lamb sheepskins, as well as apparel and furniture featuring them.

We offer tours and camping (through AirBnB) on the farm all year. Meet & Greet the flock with pistachio shells, pasture walks, and on-farm lamb sales. Special events include lambing in late winter to early spring and shearing in mid-winter.
